March 24, 2014

hello fellow citizens

so with Lucy on tuesday we taught her the work of wisdom.  and the first thing we mentioned was coffee.  and she just started laughing.  it was actually funny how it all happened.  but she drinks a ton of coffee.  to like stay up during the night while she works and everything.  then tea, she also drinks some tea.  but no alcohol or drugs or smoking.  she actually used to smoke but now no.  and she was like anything else i cant do.  and my companion was like you cant have pets.  and her face was like oh no, i cant do that.  but we were like just kidding.  she loves animals.  she actually wants to buy a pet pig.  I've actually seen a few here, they take them for walks.  it was funny her reaction though.  one of her cats just had kittens.  they were like 5 days old.  they dont even open their eyes yet.  they are so tiny.  but anyhow she said she would stop drinking coffee and tea.  maybe like once or twice more with a bad conscience. and at the end talking about her baptism, she sad the only problem she has is time.  well in spanish time is tiempo, and templo is temple.  and so with her accent it sounded like tempo, like templo so were were like what has she read about the temples, but she meant time.  that really is her only problem.  but she is going to try to look for another job, or do something so she can be baptized.  she wants to so much, just she doesnt have any time.  even just meeting with us takes away from some sleeping time, or reading the book of on.  we are going to fast and pray this week so something will change.   and then we visited them again (i was actually on exchanges so i wasnt there) but we visited them again and she said she only drunk coffee once and felt bad.  and then never has sense.  so that is just amazing.  she keeps every single commitment.  she is just amazing.  i cant remember what part of rio she is from.  but i will ask her next time.  there are those scarfs all over so i will get another,.  thats too bad the little cathedral broke.  and that is the cathedral of santiago, where James is supposedly buried.  its in Santiago de Compostelo, like an hour north of Vigo.

so we meet a less active named pedro on the street.  he is from Spain.  but at the beginning of the lesson we thought he was an investigator, but we found out he was already baptized, we were kind of like dang it.  but its still good.  but he has a super strong testimony.  he says the quran (he has read it all) or the bible, or what ever other book just doesnt fill him like the book of mormon does.  he is definitely going to come to church this week.  and its actually super good, because we desperately need men to come with us in lessons, and he could totally come soon.  so thats good.

so strange story.  we were just walking around the city talking to people.  and two men on benches stopped us and said do you have money, and normally i just keep walking, because they had beer and were smoking.  but we stopped.  and it was a super weird experiences.  it was kind of like talking to some strange guru in the middle on nowhere, and talk for a bit and then just depart ways.  but he believed in god, the other one didnt.  and they were talking, the one that believed said we need to believe in god.  so we got his number and well see what happens this week.

on saturday we helped with a move all day.  it would be so much easier with a truck.  all we had was one tiny van.  and he lived on the ninth floor.  there was an elevator, but it was tiny, so we had to cary the bigger things up nine flights of stairs.  so we meet this lady named mirella.  from ecuador.  she was just on a bench reading the bible.  so we decided to talk to her.  and we started going over the restoration.  and she brought up how god, jesus and the holy ghost are one person, and we were arguing for  a while, but got nowhere. so we just went on with teaching, and it was such a better spirit when we were just teaching, and not arguing.  but she could progress quite a lot. and it seems like MJ and C are close to getting their papers for marriage.  she is the puerto rican.  so that exciting.  i love going over there as well.  and they love us, and its just all really good.   well thats about the week for ya.  hope you have a good one.

so are Tahitian pearls like better quality than the rest, are why are they so famous?  sounds like you are having a great time on your trip.  sounds pretty cool swimming with so many sharks and sting rays.  to bad Utah lake does have those kind of corals or fish life. haha.  are most of the pearls black or white.  and what make a pearl black or white.  that would be kind of hard serving in Tahiti.  such a pretty view, and so pretty ocean and you can never go.  maybe with a baptism in the ocean.  hhhmmm.  i think most are in fonts now days though.

thats weird Brayden is home.  i remember when he got his call, and then devon did and they were all excited they were going to be serving so close to each other.  my companions name is elder Larsen.  we get along super well.  he has only been here one transfer more than i have, so we will probably both stay.  well hope you have a fun few last days.

you are in one of those bungaloo things then.  thats cool..  pretty easy to go for a late night swim then.  is the ocean pretty warm?  pretty cool to swim with sharks.  wild ones too.  bet they are fairly tamed though, and not dangerous.  be a bit different story if they were 15 foot tiger or bull sharks.  did you kiss the sting rays?  remember Steve Irwin was stung by one and died.  kind of strange.  freak thing though.  I've heard some of those islands are like 40 percent LDS.  not sure about Tahiti specifically but some poly island are a pretty high percentage mormon.  did they have any bizarre options for food ever?  why from a clam from Mississippi.  do they just need something inside of them that will turn into a pearl?  well thats to bad bout byu.  maybe next year.  but at least they made the tourny.  so thats good.  well hope you have a fun last few days in paradise.

love elder kinghorn
