December 9, 2013

hello family.

this week have been really good.  so Daniel, the guy from the train he is really cool, except for that he lives in Alecante, in the south of Spain.  he is just here for like two more weeks.  but we went to a cafe, and talked about the book of mormon.  and he seemed super excited.  and he has a family in alecante with three kids and a wife.  so we will defiantly have to pass his reference.  so J. we contacted on the street.  he is from sierra leon.  so we meet with him on saturday and talked about the restoration.  you could tell that he felt the spirit.  so his story is he was in jail for a few years.  and in jail he was praying to god to change him.  he wanted to change who he was to be a better person.  and he had been out of jail for like 6 months then we found him.  so that is super cool.  there are prepared people searching and waiting for the gospel.  then on sunday we went to go pick him up and he came to church.  he could only stay for one hour because he was moving pisos soon after.  but he is super cool.  so on a side note because there are so many african investigators attending church (one black british family, and a few other africans) they have decided to make and english investigator class.  so we are going to have an african tribal class.  so sunday i didnt attend young womens, i attended primary.  no hagas a los demos lo que no querres que te hagas a ti.  and we drew pìctures.  so N., somehow we got on the topic of tithing.  and she doesnt want to pay tithing at all.  she doesnt want us to talk to her about tithing or baptism.  so Andriv a member was in the lesson.  and he said if we dont pay tithing we are robbing god.  then he said if you think you can make it through the month while paying tithing, its a lack of faith.  a bit strong.  but N. kind of needed it, because she has been investigating the church for years.  anyhow we decided to drop her.  and after we were talking to the hermanas and i said if you want to teach her you can, so they are going to teach her now.  so one more cool story.  so R we have been teaching for like a week.  we left him 3 nefi 11 to read, but he read 10, so the next time he read 11, and as it talks about baptism, it reminded him of his baptism, so he decided so stay in his church, we had a plan to watch the restoration video, but we just ended up talking about whatever.  lots about prayer, and everything.  it was a really spiritual lesson.  and at the end he decided to continue investigating.

so we bought a christmas tree.  so before that, you know there is a store called chino here.  its basically a dollar store.  not high quality and its kind of like a joke thing.  not like the store itself but just among the missionaries if that makes sense.  so we went to a store to get a tree, but they we like oh we are out of that size, and the other,  so we asked for another size, and they were out.  so we walked around the city and all of the stores were closed for media dia.  so we were like oh well.  then the wonderful idea popped into my mind, maybe the chinos will save us!!!  and lo and behold they were opened!!!!  so we have a chino christmas tree!!!!!!!!!  maybe i shall send pictures next week.  so this catholic women came up to us the other day.  and she was like a testigo.  she attacked us.  she really believes in the catholic church.  and she was going on and un.  so i asked her if when peter died, why didnt john become the next pope, and why was the church more like a government around 1000 ad,  she had no response.  it might have been a bit of bible bashing and i dont think anything came out of it.  apparently she has done that before to missionaries.

i like that advise from his president.  success doesnt depend on others, just if you do what you are supposed to.  we did teach devairs family.  the problem is he goes to his church.  and he doesnt quite understand why we only need one church.  but he is a really good man.  really believes in god.

that is a ton of snow for St. George.  its really pretty though.  bruno does love the snow.  remember when dad started to like bruno with the slow mo of bruno catching a snow ball.  good dog.  hot yoga.  sounds exciting.  dont know much about yoga.  but maybe one day i will try.  thats funny about the hamburgers.  how did she know it was for the dogs?  remember when we thought we were the only ones to do that.  dad always thought it was strange.  im not really stressed.  i just get happier and happier as the mission goes on.  well maybe one bad thing with the add is i look arounds while we are walking, so i run into a lot of people on the street.  its kind of a joke for our apartment how i run into people.  i just mailed a package today.  said it would take around 20 days.  so probably after christmas.  but at least i sent it before.  turron is really good.  cant think of anything in particular right now.  we might be spending noche bueno with carmen.  a dominican in the ward with two sons.  one just about to send in his papers for his mission.

so i passed a reference over to another missionary and at the end he was like anything else  and i was like ummmmm  feliz navidad.  and he was like feliz navidad a ti tambien.  I've decided to start to say that at the end of all the calls.  spread some Christmas joy.

ummmm maybe some resses.  maybe one box of mac n cheese.  a chocolate orange perhaps. yeah.  oh well.  id rather have other things with the limited space.  i can make better food than mac n cheese.  some elder left some behind so I've actually had it recently and it isnt to good.

sounds like quite the race.  doesnt snow in St. George to often.  dont think it is going to snow here.  i think it snows in madrid sometimes.  not to often though.  just outside of Vigo a city called ourense gets freezing.  so i hear.  i havent been there recently.  in track we would always do the workouts indoors if it was a blizzard.  were you cold while running?  sounds quite cold in highland.  quite a bit more moderate here.  is there alot of snow in highland as well?  well maybe byu will be good when i get back.  when tj and nick will be playing there as well.

i have no clue about the christmas devotional.  i would love to watch it.  but i havent heard anything.  just like it says in preach my gospel our job is to help other people feel the spirit and allow them to make the decision.  sometimes they will accept sometimes not.  but our success doesnt depend on that.
that is quite a long field goal.  just a small lob wedge in golf though.  haha.  so i am still skyping on the 25th.  not sure when though.  maybe around 5 ish

merry christmas.
love elder Jason kinghorn
