This week has been good. The Philippinos in the ward organized an activity. We ate in Retiro Park and they brought some friends. It was sweet. We went over 3 Nephi 11, then they all shared their testimonies. It was in Tagalog, but the spirit was so strong. We got the reference of an entire family: mom, dad, children and a cousin. They are married for 22 years. We went to meet with them Friday and we talked about families, reading and praying together and they feed us a ton of food. I didn’t really want to eat more but they said eat more, so I did. I did eat pig ears. They are kind of crunchy, but good. They all came to church on Sunday for three hours. Their friend comes to Sacrament Meeting, but not the other two and she also came to all three meetings. We are super excited to continue teaching them. We are meeting with them tonight.
Well basically everyone else is still gone, like the song Wake Me Up When September Ends, but they are starting to come back. Last week church attendance was 73 and normal is around 110. This week was 90, so they are starting to come back. B. comes back today or tomorrow.
R. and R., the two younger Philipinos that I was teaching before, but now they moved, are being baptized this Saturday. They might come to this ward again because the other ward has 2 old Philipinos and our ward has about 15 and they are good friends with most of them. They might now come to this ward again because they also don’t speak Spanish really and are all right with English. They speak Tagalog and there are many other people that speak Tagalog in this ward. So we will see what happens.
We met with the Syrian. Her family sounds to be going through some rough times in Syria, but she still has strong faith. She couldn’t come to church because of work.
The Chinese man B. returned from vacations so we met with him last night and finished the restoration and is was so cool. He prayed and that was super cool. He says he feels more peace and calmness in his life. When we taught about the first vision and the restoration of the priesthood he was like, “Oooo.” It made sense. He is super cool. Anyhow that is all. Love Elder Jason Kinghorn
We went to Toledo last week and it was sweet. It’s such a cool city and looks like what I though Spain would look like. I will send pictures next week, hopefully. I have quite a lot to send. The sword shop was so cool. The first shop wouldn’t let us play with the swords, so we left. The second shop would though, so a bunch of 19 year old boys playing with swords. We all kind of bought swords. They are super cool though. A sword from toledo! super cool. I will probably ship it home soon. One elder got a sword that says “Captain Moroni” Some missionaries ordered them to be made, and he had an extra, so the elder bought it. Some of the swords were so much money. The hand made ones a small dagger was 1800 euros, quite a lot.
Hermana T. birthday is today. We are going bowling, and I will make a cheesecake or nutella bread pudding. Maybe I will have to give it to her tomorrow though. Oh well. I just went to the driving range for fun. My companion does not golf. We just had like an hour left of Pday, a lesson in the church at the end and the range it right next to the church. So he wrote letters and I golfed. I would not have thought Bono would be for capitalism. That’s sweet though. Politics did come up a little the other day.
We finally moved. The address is Calle Jose Abascal 23 3E Madrid Spain. I’m not sure of the zip code, you can probably look it up though. It has a balcony and it is super fun just to watch all the people walk by. We cleaned the last piso and there was still a lot of junk. We should have counted all the trash bags we have used. It was a ton.
I am also very grateful for our family, and grateful that through the gospel we can be together forever. The mission is really stressing finding families right now, because through families the gospel can bless us even more.
Well, have a lovely week. I forgot to say happy anniversary. It left my mind when I wrote you, but I thought of you on Thursday.
Well that’s about all from this week.
love elder Jason Kinghorn
